Redefining Honey.
Restoring Forests.
Empowering Communities.

Zambian-owned honey business producing high-quality natural honey while addressing deforestation and rural income insecurity through sustainable beekeeping.

We believe honey should do more than taste good, it should protect forests, strengthen livelihoods, and create long-term value.

Community beekeepers

Our Story

Kalkap Honey Enterprise was founded by Kalangwe Kapaipai, a Zambian economist and social entrepreneur, after witnessing how traditional beekeeping in his community, though culturally important, was quietly accelerating forest loss in rural communities.

For many families, honey is one of the few viable income sources. Yet the very method used to produce it was undermining the future of both forests and beekeepers.

Kalkap Honey Enterprise was created to prove that rural prosperity and environmental conservation do not have to compete, they can grow together.

The Problem We Are Solving

For generations, traditional bark beehives have been made by cutting down indigenous trees particularly in the northwest Zambia.

This practice:

  • Destroys nectar-producing trees
  • Degrades forest ecosystems
  • Reduces long-term honey yields
  • Limits beekeeper incomes

With honey demand rapidly increasing, this system is no longer sustainable for forests or communities.

Our Sustainable Solution

We work directly with rural communities to:

  • Replace bark hives with durable top-bar beehives
  • Train beekeepers and empower them with modern topbar hives (non-destructive practices)
  • Improve honey quality and post-harvest handling
  • Connect producers to fair and reliable markets
  • Increase incomes while conserving forests

Better honey. Stronger communities. Living forests.

Our Approach

We operate at the intersection of business, conservation, and community development.

Rather than extracting value from rural producers, we invest in systems that allow them to produce better honey sustainably and access reliable markets.

This integrated approach ensures quality honey today and healthy forests tomorrow.

  • • Eco-friendly beehive manufacturing
  • • Practical beekeeper training and mentorship
  • • Empowerment of trained beekeepers with hives
  • • Ethical sourcing and value addition
  • • Market access across local and regional markets

Our Honey Philosophy

We produce raw, natural honey that reflects Zambia's forests and climate, not industrial uniformity.

Each harvest is shaped by:

  • • Rainfall patterns
  • • Indigenous flowering trees
  • • Healthy, undisturbed bee colonies

This results in honey that is naturally diverse in color, texture, and flavor which is a true expression of place.
